About the role

The Ministry of Education of Bolivia seeks a consultant to review and strengthen the architectural design standards for sanitary facilities in schools across the country. The assignment focuses on creating inclusive, safe, and hygienic restroom solutions for all users, with special attention to girls, women, people with disabilities, and rural contexts.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze existing sanitary design standards and related national regulations.
• Develop differentiated design standards for primary, secondary and early childhood education levels, considering geographic zones (Altiplano, Valleys, Eastern Plains) and user groups.
• Produce reference floor plans that incorporate menstrual hygiene management, privacy, security, lighting and wastewater disposal.
• Define technical criteria for alternative water supply and wastewater systems suitable for off‑grid rural schools.
• Integrate universal accessibility requirements to ensure dignified use by persons with disabilities.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in designing public‑sector sanitation facilities, preferably in educational settings.
• Familiarity with Bolivian, Latin American and international WASH standards.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to produce technical documentation in Spanish.
