Consultancy – Architectural Design of School Sanitary Standards (La Paz)

About the role

The Ministry of Education of Bolivia is looking for a consultant to review and strengthen the architectural design standards for sanitary facilities in educational establishments across the country. The assignment will focus on creating safe, inclusive, accessible and hygienic school bathroom designs that meet national and regional requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Review existing design standards and related regulations for school sanitary infrastructure.
• Develop differentiated architectural standards for bathroom units by education level, geographic zone and user type, including reference drawings.
• Integrate criteria for menstrual hygiene management, privacy, safety and adequate lighting.
• Define technical specifications for alternative drinking‑water and wastewater disposal systems suitable for rural and off‑grid contexts.
• Strengthen universal accessibility guidelines to ensure dignified use by persons with disabilities.

Required profile

• Professional degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in designing public sanitation facilities, preferably for schools.
• Familiarity with WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) standards and inclusive design principles.
• Knowledge of Bolivian or broader Latin American construction regulations.
• Ability to work in Spanish and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
