Chief Technology Officer

About the role

Toptal is seeking a visionary Chief Technology Officer to lead its product and engineering teams. The CTO will embed AI at the core of every solution, shaping an AI‑first technical architecture that drives the company’s growth and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own Toptal’s full technical architecture with an AI‑first focus.
• Build, fine‑tune, and deploy foundation models and agentic engineering practices.
• Lead design reviews, code reviews, and ensure rapid delivery without compromising quality.
• Collaborate with Product to create modular interfaces exposing core business logic.
• Plan resourcing, headcount, and hiring of top‑tier engineering talent.
• Coach engineers on AI best practices and keep the executive team informed of emerging AI capabilities.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale engineering organizations, preferably in a fully remote environment.
• Deep expertise in AI, foundation models, and agentic engineering.
• Hands‑on builder mindset; comfortable writing code and participating in design reviews.
• Strong hiring instincts and ability to attract and develop A‑players.
