Venture Capital Investment Consultant – Debt Operations

About the role

The IDB Lab Venture Capital Investments unit seeks a dynamic, client‑oriented professional with strong analytical and financial skills to support the Investment Officer in debt operations. This full‑time consultant will help originate, screen, and manage venture debt opportunities for high‑impact start‑ups across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Key responsibilities

• Originate and screen deal flow, building relationships with private‑sector stakeholders and Investment Officers in the region.
• Assess debt opportunities, conduct financial analysis, modeling, credit underwriting, market analysis, and draft investment concept notes and memoranda.
• Maintain internal records of debt opportunities and update IDB Lab’s systems throughout the sourcing and screening process.
• Prepare strategic documents and presentations on the loans portfolio, pipeline, and leads.
• Support investment review discussions and supervise debt positions within the portfolio.
• Coordinate with other IDB Lab units to prepare country reports and provide assistance to the portfolio management team.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Finance, Business or related field; CFA designation highly valued.
• Minimum 5 years of transactional experience in debt operations within corporate banking, debt funds, or investment banks.
• Proven track record in financial analysis, modeling, and preparation of investment memoranda.
• Experience in Latin America and the Caribbean is a strong plus.
• Fluent in English and Spanish; Portuguese or French a plus.
• Citizen of a 48‑member IDB country and eligible to work without sponsorship.
