Macroeconomist Consultant – Research Department

About the role

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is looking for a consultant to support its Research Department (RES) in conducting macro‑economic analysis for Latin America and the Caribbean. Working under RES economists, the consultant will help produce policy‑oriented research, briefing materials and contribute to the Bank’s flagship publications.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare talking points, briefing notes and Q&A materials for senior management on current macro‑economic developments.
• Monitor macro‑economic, financial, fiscal, external and trade indicators and produce short analytical notes on emerging trends.
• Translate findings from the Annual Macroeconomic Report and other publications into concise policy products for internal and external audiences.
• Contribute to the preparation of the Annual Macroeconomic Report and draft or review analytical sections for policy reports, speeches and presentations.
• Build, update and document macro‑economic databases and analytical tools, producing charts, tables and factsheets.
• Undertake research and analysis on macro‑economic and financial policy topics relevant to the region.
• Provide analytical, data and drafting inputs on short‑turnaround macro‑economic issues as required.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Economics, Finance or a related field.
• Proven experience in macro‑economic research and policy analysis, preferably focused on Latin America and the Caribbean.
• Ability to synthesize complex macro‑economic analysis into clear, concise messages for senior management and non‑technical audiences.
• Strong written communication skills in English and Spanish.
