Junior Communications Assistant

About the role

The Junior Communications Assistant will support the Andean Countries HUB of UN‑Habitat in implementing its communication strategy. Working under the HUB Coordinator, the consultant will help create and disseminate content across multiple channels while ensuring activities are validated and aligned with UN‑Habitat objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the social media content calendar and produce posts (text, images, videos) for platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn.
• Develop communication materials including brochures, flyers, presentations, infographics, photos and videos.
• Monitor social media engagement, respond to comments and mentions, and analyse performance metrics to recommend improvements.
• Support the design and execution of massive mailing campaigns and analyse their results.
• Assist in organising media events, press conferences and partner collaborations to broaden campaign reach.
• Participate in regular meetings with the HUB Coordinator, other consultants and project staff, ensuring compliance with UN integrity principles.

Required profile

• High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication, Journalism, Publicity or related field preferred.
• 6 months to 1 year experience in project management or communication strategy implementation in development, humanitarian or urban contexts.
• Fluency in English and Spanish; knowledge of French or another UN official language is a plus.
• Experience with United Nations systems is desirable.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office or equivalent office software.
• Experience using Canva Pro for graphic design.
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud tools: Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects.
• Familiarity with video editing tool CapCut.
• Ability to create and manage content on major social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn).
